Night after night, she signs into the same chat room, meeting people who listen to her, people who are passionate, loving, and at times just as depressed as she is. At times she lives her life through these online friends. They save her from the everyday trials of caregiving. They are there each night keeping her connected to someone, something, not feeling alone and empty. Chat rooms on this amazing piece of technology called the Internet was rather new when Rose Lamatt decided to try opening a new world of existence for herself and replace the depression in her life with a semblance of happiness. After much trepidation, she hit one click on the keyboard. Instantly, she found herself connected to a chat room and making new friends…online.

The book continues to tell a poignant story of the lives of the author and three other special online friends as they travel the ups and downs of life’s unpredictable path. It takes the reader over some rocky roads as the characters desperately try to overcome the trials of life the best way they know how. Some make it. Some don’t. That’s life.

If you, as a reader, find life and its trials and tribulations interesting, then this book is for you! Personally, I found it intriguing and once I started reading, I didn’t put it down until it was finished.

Rose Lamatt writes a very moving and personal story in her latest book “Connected”. In the mid-nineties, the Internet chat rooms were new, but Rose had the courage to visit with three other women in private chat rooms, play games together, and as a result become friends. They truly become “Connected”. Rose writes of their journey together through many years of hardships, illnesses, and hurricanes in Florida.

It was also during this time that Rose rediscovered her passion for writing. Spending hours and hours on the computer, she wrote her first book “Just a Word” about her friend Carol. Writing was not only therapy for Rose, she is using her skills as a writer to help educate and support others about Alzheimer’s disease.

After spending most of her life feeling “disconnected”, Rose developed a very close relationship with a friend with whom she shared a love of golf and all areas of life. They started anew in Florida, thinking they could play year round, which they did for a number of years before her friend fell victim to Alzheimer’s and eventually had to be placed in a health facility. This left Rose more depressed and `disconnected’ than she had ever been.

Alone in her apartment, she turned more and more to her computer to help fill the loneliness. As she became more familiar with the Internet, she heard of the many chat groups and decided to see what they were like. She found that with just the click of her computer key she could meet and “connect” to many other women–some like her–lonely and depressed; but also found fun things to discuss and games to share on line.

Slowly she came back to life, looking forward to the evenings when most of the chat rooms were full. She soon began to meet three of the same women each evening, with whom she would chat and play pool. One of them had a number of things in common with Rose, and a very deep friendship was bonded on the computer and by phone.

An unusual and intriguing new life developed for the two of them–one living in Florida, the other in Nevada. You will find the `rest of the story’ a page-turner, with surprises around each corner.
